Walk of Shame

Black coffee
from a dirty cup.
Head aching
as the day wakes up.
Last night lingers on my tongue.
Half-way home
in a small cafe.
Clear my head
then I'm on my way.
I take the Walk of shame.

Passers by
catching each others eye;
delighting in our
not so secret lies.
Walk of shame -
I'm on that road again.
Memory fades;
was it
such a good night?

Cold water
dripping off my face.
Woke up -
an unfamiliar place;
the smell of lust hangs in the air.
Still early,
I get fumble-dressed.
Last kiss,
then leave with no regrets
as I take the walk of shame.

Passers by
catching each others eye;
delighting in our
not so secret lies.
Walk of shame -
I'm on that road again.
Memory fades;
was it
such a good night?

Loving without a connection.
Leaving; no time for affection.
The ritual becomes the religion:
habitual; it feeds the addiction.

Cheap whisky
got us in the mood.
At hers
together in the nude;
I run my fingers through her hair.
A whisper
followed by a kiss.
A shudder;
momentary bliss.
Then thoughts turn to the walk of shame

Passers by
catching each others eye;
delighting in our
not so secret lies.
Walk of shame -
I'm on that road again.
Memory fades;
was it
such a good night?

Sam vs The World

You were the prettiest girl
that I'd ever seen;
you could have been
a star of the silver screen.
I thought I'd seen
your picture in magazines.
Then I found out
you were only almost seventeen.

Out on the town
with your mam
watching your favourite band.
Now the summers arrived
you've got plans
to take the world on Sam.
You've got plans
to take the world on Sam.

With your hair tied up
you looked sophisticated.
Your little red dress
should've been X-rated.
You were gonna have fun -
it was appreciated
by the middle-aged men
reliving Oasis.

Out on the town
with your mam
watching your favourite band.
Now the summers arrived
you've got plans
to take the world on Sam.
You've got plans
to take the world on Sam.

Life's a blank canvas
stretching out from now.
Your dreams can be your future
if you can work out how.
Don't listen if they tell you
there are things you cannot do,
'cos time is short and life's a blast;
the world belongs to you!

You went up to the club
you were petrified.
The crowd was going wild
for the 80s vibe.
But once you'd started dancing
you never got tired.
It was the first night of the summer
- you felt so alive...

Out on the town
with your mam
watching your favourite band.
Now the summers arrived
you've got plans
to take the world on Sam.
You've got plans
to take the world on Sam.

She Loves Me Not

Still barely a woman,
my head saw it coming;
my heart wouldn't listen.
She's driving me crazy;
this beautiful lady
this heavenly vision.

She loves me,
she loves me not.
she loves me,
she loves me not.
she loves me,
she loves me not.
The petals are fallen,
the flowers: forgot,
and she loves me,
she loves me not.

She crosses the room
and her heady perfume
fills my senses.
The smile that
lights up her eyes
tears down my defences.

She loves me,
she loves me not.
she loves me,
she loves me not.
she loves me,
she loves me not.
The petals are fallen,
the flowers: forgot,
and she loves me,
she loves me not.

I meet her in my dreams;
she seems so real to me.
I'd sleep my life away
to share her company.

Keeps changing her mind
seems like thousands of times;
it's almost daily.
But when she decides
that she wants to be mine
she's amazing.

She loves me,
she loves me not.
she loves me,
she loves me not.
she loves me,
she loves me not.
The petals are fallen,
the flowers: forgot,
and she loves me,
she loves me not.

The petals are fallen,
the flowers: forgot,
and she loves me,
she loves me not.

The Lost Generation

You volunteered;
we couldn't stop you
from joining the rest of the boys.
Nowt we could say
would make you stay away
from the noise
of the guns
and the bombs
going off all around;
killing and maiming
without hesitating
in case it was one of their own
going down.

"Why were you running away from the battle?",
that's all the Captain could say.
Were you yellow or were you just frightened,
a coward or just not very brave?

You looked like a man,
your uniform sparkling;
your mother was prouder than punch.
As you marched down the street
in your fresh booted feet,
the town
gathered round
to cheer you all off
to the war.
Where you'd kill and you'd maim
without knowing the name
of the man you were shooting
or stabbing to death
for the cause.

A whistle blew shrill and then over the top;
you were running through mud that's knee high.
Past the bodies of men you grew up with.
Did the thought send you out of your mind?

Your ship sailed away.
You were so excited
you didn't look back to the shore.
Where We waved and we prayed
and we wished you'd have stayed
but you'd gone
with your friends
to meet glorious ends;
men will sing -
of the days and the nights
when you stood tall to fight
for the country, the corps
and the King.

You took the first bullet between the shoulders,
the second went straight through your head.
Even though you were running the wrong way,
the bastards made sure you were dead.

History will tell of a Lost Generation
the "Flower of Youth" gone for good.
With the poppies; blood-red, a reminder
that the war to end wars never could.

Slow Down

Slow down;
you're taking things too fast for me.
Slow down;
you're making things too hard for me.

What made you lie to me?
What made you cry?
I still don't see
what made you lay with me;
what were you thinking?
Why did you walk away?
Why won't you talk;
I've lots to say?
Why do you play with me
when you've been drinking?

Slow down;
you're taking things too fast for me.
Slow down;
you're making things too hard for me.

When did you change your mind?
Did you arrange
things so I'd find
that I am in so deep,
I might be sinking?
How can you be so cold?
You mock me
as my dreams unfold.
You make me feel so small,
I must be shrinking.

Slow down;
you're taking things too fast for me.
Slow down;
you're making things too hard for me.

You lead me on, I drag my feet
then I catch up but you retreat.
You tie me down, I struggle free.
You lock me in, I break the door.
I walk away but you want more.
You change the rules and make me play.
I can't get away...

Slow down;
you're taking things too fast for me.
Slow down;
you're making things too hard for me.

Slow down...
Slow down...
Slow down...

One Man Army

He rode out of the sunset
on a horse of silvery-white;
he'd been travelling
for many days and nights.
He was the legendary hero
from stories of old;
bullets made of silver,
buttons made of gold.

She'd been calling out for help,
he was the answer to her prayers
to rid the town of all the criminals
and the low down, dirty mayor.
Even though she was a no good bitchy whore,
she didn't deserve this anymore.

He was the one man army,
the killing machine,
the bane of all evil
from every childhood dream.
One man army.
Killing machine.
Bane of all evil
from every childhood dream.

He was faster on the draw
than all the men in town
and was quite prepared to prove the point
if it came to a showdown.
The men in black all knew it
and didn't want to face
the rest of time in a six-foot hole
'cos of this gun-slinging ace.

He was the one man army,
the killing machine,
the bane of all evil
from every childhood dream.
One man army.
Killing machine.
Bane of all evil
from every childhood dream.

The main street was deserted.
No-one dared to step outside,
except the mayor and his posse
who had nowhere else to hide.
The clock it struck eleven,
the guns began to roar
and thirty seconds later
there were bodies on the floor.

As he rides into the sunset
and fades into the haze,
a town of grateful citizens
can look to better days.
Whenever there's a tyrant
causing misery or hurt,
it only takes one man
to leave them face down in the dirt...

He was the one man army,
the killing machine,
the bane of all evil
from every childhood dream.
One man army.
Killing machine.
Bane of all evil
from every childhood dream.

The Glory of Your Gaze

I see the trees
sway in the breeze;
dancing,
like you dance with me.

I watch the clouds
blown through the sky;
pillows
on which you could lie.

I see the sun
making rainbows
in your praise.
I see the moon
bask in the glory
of your gaze.

I hear the birds
up on the wire;
singing,
like they're your personal choir.

I see the waves
roll in on the tide.
White horses
upon which you could ride.

I see the sun
making rainbows
in your praise.
I see the moon
bask in the glory
of your gaze.

Every time I pass you by
I try to catch your eye
and smile the smile
that says I love you.

Every night, when I turn out
the light, I wanna wrap
my arms around you tight
and hold you close.

Every morning, when I feel
the glory of the sun
come pouring in the room,
I want to see you.
I wanna be near you.
My love is true...

I count the stars
as they fill up the night;
sparkling
like the gleam in your eyes.

I need a bridge
to cross the divide
that keeps you
from being at my side.

I see the sun
making rainbows
in your praise.
I see the moon
bask in the glory
of your gaze.

I see the sun
making rainbows
in your praise.
I see the moon
bask in the glory
of your gaze.

Red Light

Red light.
Hidden in the shadows;
cold bites,
she don't wear a coat.
Pretty girl,
she feels unwanted.
Cruel world;
is life a joke?

Turning tricks
to please old men.

She lies,
she cries,
she tries to hide,
she dies in her imagination.
She lays,
she prays,
she counts the days;
she waits for her emancipation
...her liberation.

Left home;
she was only fifteen.
Hit the road
to chase her dreams.
Met a guy,
said he'd sort her troubles.
Pretty soon
she's on the streets.

Turning tricks
to please old men.

She lies,
she cries,
she tries to hide,
she dies in her imagination.
She lays,
she prays,
she counts the days;
she waits for her emancipation
...her liberation.

And when she cries
no-one comforts her.
And when she hides
the demons find her.
When she lays,
she thinks of Jesus
but when she prays
there is no answer.

Red light.
Hidden in the shadows.
Needle bites;
it dulls the pain.
Getting high
don't make it easy.
Clouded mind
keeps the fear away

When she's turning tricks
to please old men.

She lies,
she cries,
she tries to hide,
she dies in her imagination.
She lays,
she prays,
she counts the days;
she waits for her emancipation
...her liberation.

The Trains Today

I saw her at the station;
I couldn't believe my luck.
She was standing on my platform
so I hurried to be near her
through the crush.
Bags hanging from my shoulder,
I wish that I'd been bold
and said, "Hello...
...are you going all the way?"

The trains today -
they're not as romantic
as the black and white
films portray.
With these delays
there'd be no Brief Encounter;
Richard Hannay won't get away.
The trains today.

We get into our carriage;
she sits across the table from me.
She's as pretty as a picture
postcard of Saltburn-by-the-Sea;
in the days when your vacation
had a British destination
and you got there in
the lap of luxury.

The trains today -
they're not as romantic
as the black and white
films portray.
With these delays
there'd be no Brief Encounter;
Richard Hannay won't get away.
The trains today.

Leaves on the line,
wrong kind of snow.
Strong winds, heavy rain.
We'll get you there eventually.
This is the age of the train!

She thinks I'm looking out the window
as I stare at her reflection in the glass.
When the sun shines from behind her
she glows just like a dancer by Degas.
And as the landscape slowly changes
we pass lakes and mountain ranges
but the view I have
is simply unsurpassed.

The trains today -
they're not as romantic
as the black and white
films portray.
With these delays
there'd be no Brief Encounter;
Richard Hannay won't get away.
The trains today -

they're not as romantic

Rain on the Wind

It's all flooding back to me now.
All the things I have done,
that I really shouldn't have.
I'm recalling things from... oh, so long ago;
it's like a bad dream from my childhood.
It's not making me feel good.

There's a rain on the wind,
it's washing over me;
draining away
my fears and bitter memories.
I bear no grudges;
don't wanna cause anyone pain.
But my games over now.
I just wish
I could play it again.

It's coming at me thick and fast,
it's like an instant replay of all my mistakes.
I'm reliving things I wish I hadn't done
the first time
and it's hurting me bad;
turning my insides.

There's a rain on the wind,
it's washing over me;
covering up
the tears that come to me.
It's blowing my mind;
doing my head in.
I need some time to think
of what the future holds for me.

I could end it all now.
It couldn't be as painful
as the scars
my past
has given me.

The angel of death sits by my side.
Waiting for my soul;
waiting to free my mind.
As the curtain falls upon my last encore
I can't find the words:
they've all been said before.

There's a rain on the wind,
it's washing over me;
draining away
my fears and bitter memories.
I bear no grudges;
don't wanna cause anyone pain.
But my games over now.
I just wish
I could play it again.

Valentine

Roses are red,
violets are blue.
One day my love,
I will be with you.

Take this card
as a statement
of my intent.
Please don't break my heart
or treat me with
undisguised contempt.

Roses are red,
violets are blue.
One day my love,
I will be with you.

Look inside.
Read the words
I wish I'd spoken.
Don't be unkind;
don't leave me standing
here heartbroken.

Roses are red,
violets are blue.
One day my love,
I will be with you.

Be my Valentine.
Say you'll be mine
'til the end of time.
(x3)

Roses are red,
violets are blue.
One day my love,
I will be with you.

If you choose your man
on what he's promised
to deliver,
don't be the girl
who sells her heart
to the highest bidder.

Roses are red,
violets are blue.
One day my love,
I will be with you.

Be my Valentine.
Say you'll be mine
'til the end of time.
(x3)

Roses are red,
violets are blue.
One day my love,
I will be with you.

Be my Valentine.
Say you'll be mine
'til the end of time.
(x3)

Roses are red,
violets are blue.

Red Sunset

Red sunset dyes the sky
and casts a glow upon the sea.
When morning comes I sail away.
When I return be here for me.

Dry your eyes;
don't cry.
I can't bear to leave
without your smile.
Raise your head;
hold it high.
Walk tall, stand proud,
don't be unhappy child.

Cold nights adrift, alone.
Every port of call a home.
When stormy weather threatens me,
I'll think of you and sleep in peace.

Dry your eyes;
don't cry.
I can't bear to leave
without your smile.
Raise your head;
hold it high.
Walk tall, stand proud,
don't be unhappy child.

Full moon shines o'er the sea.
The stars reveal your face to me.
The spray reminds me of your tears;
the memories rid me of my fears.

Dry your eyes;
don't cry.
I can't bear to leave
without your smile.
Raise your head;
hold it high.
Walk tall, stand proud,
don't be unhappy child.

Red sunset dyes the sky
and casts a glow upon the sea.
When morning comes I sail away.
When I return be here for me.
